BOQUETE
‘Boquete the Boutique Hamlet.’
Located in the mountains that form the spine of the Panama Isthmus, this colorful town is very popular with Panamanians from the big cities and expats from around the world. It is a healthy region with lush gardens of flowering plants, tasty fruit and produce. Central America’s ‘Shangri La’.
Boquete’s popularity is attracting so many new comers that the government is building a four lane highway to the Pan American highway. That will put Boquete within 30 minutes of Panama’s second largest city, David, with its many stores, facilities, airport, etc. This will really push the building boom going on in the western region of the country and bring in many more retirees looking for cheap living in Central America.
The indigenous native women of the highland region wear colorful dresses that look something like Hawaiian Muumuus, called ‘Enaguas’. They have added an artistic touch with a good deal of embroidery - mostly diamond or pyramid designs. One can speculate that this style of clothing was introduced by missionaries to hide the nakedness of the native women. We know for certain that was the case in Hawaii.
